TAP-ing into success

While NAPLAN results were released in July, the state averages were released this week.  Of particular note was Yarram Secondary Colleges result in Reading, which reflects that 60% of our Year 9 students are either strong or exceeding. At 60%, Yarram is outperforming both our network schools, Sale and Maffra Secondary College, as well as similar schools across the state.  Our success in Reading can be attributed to our targeted acceleration program (TAP) which we launched in 2019.

The focus of TAP is to raise core literacy outcomes in reading, comprehension, oral language and spelling. TAP is designed to support the individual point-of-need of each child. To create the conditions to maximise success, students are placed in small, targeted working groups based on results from their Progressive Assessment Test (PAT), teacher judgement and NAPLAN.

By committing to, and resourcing, a dedicated literacy program, YSC has committed to developing and refining the reading skills of every student at our school.  Our results speak for themselves, and we will continue to celebrate these outstanding results with our community.
