Fresh Look for YSC

YSC has made an investment, signed off on at our November meeting of School Council, to replace windows and paint the buildings. During term 4, college leadership investigated ways in which we could address the overwhelming issues we have with aging buildings. In November we voted to engage the services of Programmed, to provide a maintenance and painting schedule for our school. This 7-year contract will cost our school over $500,000. Core works have already happened, and the results speak for themselves, with sparkling new windows and fresh paint over the past two months.

Leadership makes decisions when managing finite budgets and for the last 13 years we have prioritised specialist literacy and numeracy programs, the establishment of a flexible learning campus, and maintaining a breadth of small VCE classes. For a small school we deliver an incredibly rich and diverse program. Our VCE results of the last few years, which have seen 18-20% of all VCE students obtaining ATARs over 90, is a testament to this. But it’s not just the academics that we are proud of; it’s the calibre of the young people we help to grow and develop, including our 2025 School Captain, Hector Macaulay. Hector is now the proud recipient of a lucrative Gardiner Foundation scholarship and will receive $20,000 for each year of his study at Melbourne University. These scholarships are supported by written testimony from staff at YSC. Writing glowingly about Hector is easy because we know about all his achievements both inside our school community and in the broader community of Yarram. Lily Marazzato is a similar success story, hot off the heels of a very successful campaign at the Victorian State Schools Championships with Yarram Secondary College’s 4 x 100m relay team achieving a silver medal. Lily has once again brought home a significant win in the recent Victorian Country Track and Field Championships. This time Lily, alongside fellow Gippsland athletes, achieved top place on the podium and a gold medal to celebrate. To say we are proud of our school, and our community is an understatement.”
