Do you know how to cook for 4 visitors, but then more visitors are coming at the last minute and you have to adjust the recipe?
Our VCE Foundation Maths class had to adjust a recipe for 4 to suit a different number of people ie: 10, 15 or 20, compare ingredient prices from at least 2 supermarkets and then create a budget. The purpose of the investigation explores how mathematics is use in everyday contexts such as cooking, scaling quantities, budgeting and interpreting data. Students used proportional reasoning, percentages and cost analysis to make informed decisions.
