Mayoral Visit

Yarram Secondary College was delighted to welcome Wellington Shire Mayor Cr Cindy Madeley and Councillor Garry Stephens to speak with several of our classes about the important role local councils play in Yarram and the wider Wellington community, recently.

The visit was especially timely for our Year 7 Humanities students, who are currently exploring civics and democracy. Students gained valuable insights into how local government works, the decisions councils make, and the many ways young people can become active and engaged members of their community.

Many locals will know Cr Stephens for his long-standing contribution to the Yarram community, including his current role as President of the Yarram Eisteddfod. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to hear firsthand from two dedicated community leaders who generously shared their experiences and encouraged the next generation to get involved and make a difference.

A huge thank you to Cr Cindy Madeley and Cr Garry Stephens for taking the time to inspire our students and strengthen their understanding of local democracy
