This Friday Yarram Secondary College will be championing student health and wellbeing as the first Secondary School in the Wellington area to sign up for the Healthy Together Achievement Program. As part of our commitment to the Achievement Program YSC will be holding a WELLNESS Day (Wellbeing, Empathy, Linking with peers, Linking with community, Nutrition, Emotional intelligence, Social skills, Support). During the day each year level will be provided with 4-5 workshop opportunities which will cover developing skills and understanding in self-awareness and empathy as well as practical coping strategies that students can use in response to life’s challenges. We also have sessions on mindfulness, self-expression and self-defence as well as clinics run by elite athletes and coaches in football, netball and basketball. After each session there will be a small break. This is to allow students to have some reflection time between each session.
This is a normal school day and there is no cost for your child to participate in this day. The first session will start promptly at 8.55am. Students are invited to wear casual clothes to school for a gold coin donation which will go towards the local Rotary Club’s ‘Lift the Lid on Mental Illness’ fundraiser and local families in need. All students participating in sport clinics should bring a change of clothes, suitable for the oval or the gym.
