On Wednesday the 11th of September the year 11 and 12 Vet Engineering classes headed off to Melbourne to visit AirEng, an Engineering factory that fabricate huge fans for the Mining industry and Power industry.
When we arrived at AirEng we meet the proprietor Rhys Thompson who is an ex Yarram Secondary College student. Rhys showed the students through his workshop explaining all the different materials and fabrication processes in the Welding and Fitting and Turning areas. The students got to interact directly with the employees, many of them ex YSC students.
After the factory tour AirEng put on a BBQ for the students and the employees. While we were eating, four of our students had interviews for Boiler Maker and Fitting and Turning positions, a process AirEng go through annually with our students and have in the past employed two or three YSC students each year.
After lunch and interviews Rhys started up some fans were we had some fun and got an insight on just how much air these fans can move. Unfortunately the day had to come to an end, we all thanked Rhys for a fantastic day and we headed off back to school.
