Speed Careering Success

Today all our year 10 students were involved in another Beacon event titled, “Speed Careering”. Speed careering works by having a range of different organisations set up on stations and by having the students in small groups visit each station.

The local companies and businesses represented today included employees from, Esso, Transfield, Ambulance Victoria Yarram Branch, DEPI, ANZ Bank, Kees Solicitors, Beacon, Yarram and District Health Services, Advance TAFE and YSC.

The students were given six minutes at each station where they heard about the workplace roles the presented was involved in, how they became that person, training and experience required to work in that industry and the students were given the opportunity to ask questions. The students were also given educational material to take away with them which provided additional information about that particular industry.

On completion of the formal discussions all students and guests were treated to a beautiful BBQ lunch cooked by Mr Skews and his work experience student Bradley.

This was another successful event for our year 10 students which will have given many of them a new insight into the many possible careers within the above mentioned industries.
