Senior Girls Badminton – 3rd at State Finals

Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre hosted the finals of the Victorian Secondary School Badminton Championship on Thursday 16th August. The morning commenced with the final 8 schools split into two pools; Yarram was placed in Pool A.

The pool stage was played as a round-robin where Yarram faced Bayside College, Charlton College and Ballarat High School. At the end of this the girls finished with 2 wins which enabled them to progress to the semi-finals opposing the winners of Pool B, John Monash Science School.

Following the 4 singles and 2 doubles matches both schools were locked at 3 wins each. This meant a count-back on total points scored by each team. In a close finish, Yarram missed out on the final by 20 points (100 – 120) and finished in 3rd place. It is the third year in a row the Senior Girls badminton team has made it to the state finals.

Congratulations again, to Leah Mallet, Belinda McDonald, Alysha Moore and Jacinta Kuhnell, on a great performance.
