Students from Yarram Secondary College again wowed audiences with their amazing voices and instrumental playing at the annual music concert and art tech exhibition last Wednesday night.
The students performed as part of the choir, vocal ensembles, Big Band, class bands, instrumental ensembles, some house music and more. MC’s Lewis McQueen and Bobby Brewer-Bell delighted the audience with their witty one liners, introducing the acts with vigour.
The school runs an amazing music program headed by Linda Bowden and she is very well supported by Saul Stainer, Russ Praetz, John Rees and Don Cook with students able to learn singing, woodwind, guitar, brass, percussion, piano and violin.
Three year 12 students were also farewelled and thanked for their participation in the music program and students from the Primary Instrumental Program receiving certificates of participation.
Awards winners: Percussion- Adam Moore, Woodwind- Shannon Ray, Guitar- Eli Kerrison-Male and Lewis Maher, Brass- Chelsea Petterson, Senior Vocal -Alex Bowden, Junior Vocal- Hayley Hands. Encouragement awards were also given to Seamus Doyle, Aimee Moore, Jamie Stephens, Nicola Treller, Kody Bowman, Bailey Johnson, Jeanette VanLeerdam, Jade Palmer, Mackenzie Walker, Tayla Dwyer and Kristen Sellings. Members of the Choir and Big Band were all presented with medallions for their fantastic contributions through the year.
Also on display were works of art, technology and media with a showcase of the VCE works. There are many talented students in the arts at the Yarram Secondary College and once again they showed the top class work that is produced locally. Many, many hours and funds go into the concert and the setting up of the exhibition, so it makes it worthwhile when it is supported by the parents and community. Anyone who hasn’t attended should make the effort next year as it’s certainly a very cheap night for top class entertainment.
Well done all.
