Leading 21st Century Schools: Engage with Asia Program

We are  very pleased to be acknowledged as an Access Asia School by the Asia Education Foundation. The Access Asia Schools initiative provides a platform to share strategies and practices that Asia-engaged schools have undertaken to achieve Asia literacy for their students.

“The world as we know it is being redefined by the rise of Asia. New skills, new understandings and new knowledge about Asia are clearly essential for our future prosperity. By the time they leave school, all of our young people need to be Asia literate”

(Sid Myer AM, Chairman, Asialink)

Education Ministers state the need for Australians to be Asia Literate in the Melbourne Declaration on Education Goals for Young Australians. They recognise that the growing influence of India, China and other Asian nations is a major change in the world that impacts on all young Australians.

What is Asia Literacy?

The idea of Asia literacy is that by the time they leave school a growing number of young Australians will speak an Asian language and all young Australians will have foundational and deep knowledge, skills and understanding of the histories, geographies, arts and literature of the diverse countries of Asia.
