As part of the Victorian Secondary Sports competition, nineteen students from Years 7 and 8 represented Yarram Secondary College at Maffra to compete in the Wellington District Year 8 Boys Football Carnival. The students took the initiative of organising the team positions prior to commencing the day and proved effective at managing their own rotation through different roles on the ground.
In perfect, sunny conditions the team played four games, comprised of two fifteen minutes halves. Wins in the first two games against Maffra Secondary College (26 – 0) and Kurnai College (35 – 23) had the boys confidence up. The following two games were more of an arm-wrestle, going down to Catholic College Sale (15 – 30) and improving on a scoreless first half against Lavalla (12 – 52).
I would like to thank the boys involved for their positive sportsmanship and level of intensity throughout the day. Considering the team was playing in the Year 8 competition and half of the students were in Year 7 it was a great effort, congratulations.
