Big Band Sound

Our Big Band took out the prestigious Arthur Bunn Memorial Shield on Friday night at the eisteddfod. Lead by Saul Stainer the band really impressed adjudicator, Lachlan Redd in which he said both pieces were outstanding rhythmically and ensemble wise. Again this is testament to the dedication by Saul and the music department. Well done.

This morning our Big Band took out the Bertram Family Stage/Big Band section in another exciting section. The Big Band today included Holly Jonston on vocals.

Many other students also had success over the weekend in the instrumental and pianoforte sections as well as Gala night on Friday night.

    Congratulations!

This brings back so many memories on so many levels. I remember being part of the Yarram Band in 1959-60, first under the baton of Frank Foletta (I think I have that right), then playing under the direction of Arthur Bunn.

The school didn’t have a band at that stage, and I was in the first ever stage production, “The Gondoliers” in 1960. I attended the 40-year Gondoliers cast reunion at the school in 2000.

I thrilled to see such a strong musical presence at the school I loved. 😀
