Beacon Foundation Charter Signing

″I willing commit to achieving personal best through the Yarram Secondary College’s Beacon program, I will pursue a positive pathway in further education, training and development.″

After a very positive Charter Signing event last Friday our students signed their names below this statement on our 2012 Charter Board as a sign of their commitment to achieving their best.

The Charter Signing began with a visual display of the different Beacon events our students have been involved in throughout the year. Our MC’s Georgie and Patrick did a wonderful job of running the event and introducing and thanking the various speakers.

The main guest speaker for the event was Travis Demsey. Travis was the original drummer for the band The Living End. He shared his life story with us and gave the audience some very powerful messages about having dreams & goals and then doing something positive to make them happen. Travis then involved a group of students in a drumming workshop to demonstrate how you can achieve if you focus and make a genuine effort. Travis did a fantastic job or connecting with his audience and spent a lot of time after his presentation talking with students and answering their many questions.

The event concluded with a morning tea and some amazing cup-cakes made by Miss Demaria.

Thank you to the parents and business people who joined us for this event, and for everyone who has worked with the school this year in our Beacon Foundation events. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship with the Beacon Foundation and the Yarram Community as we work with our students to help them achieve their best.
