ANZ Bank Supports Yarram Secondary College Students

The ANZ bank has put its support behind the Beacon Foundation Program being run at Yarram Secondary College by contributing a community donation for 2013.

Jason Batson, ANZ Gippsland District Manager and Michelle Graham, Manager of the Yarram Branch, gave the school the good news this week when they arrived to present the school with a cheque for $3500 to support the delivery of 2 High Impact programs. Michelle outlined how they will also physically support the program by attending Events as mentors, conduct Mock Interviews for all year 10 students and organise a visit to their Head Office in Collins Street, Melbourne.

This sponsorship came as a result of Michelle’s involvement in the first year of the Beacon Program at the College in 2012. Michelle was involved in all the events and activities run throughout the year. She was impressed with the quality of the events being run and the impact they were having on the young people of our community.

Michelle spoke passionately this year at the Business Breakfast about what she had gained personally by being involved in the program last year. Michelle highlighted the growth she had witnessed in the young people as they gained self confidence in presenting themselves for interviews, work situations and speaking to local business people.

The Beacon Program was initially funded through a joint application by six Gippsland schools in 2012 and each school now has to find their own funds to continue from this year onwards. Businesses were invited to consider funding a High Impact Event or part of an event at this years Business Breakfast.

The ANZ’s Community Sponsorship Grant means the school can run all the High Impact Programs again this year, which is fantastic outcome for our year ten students.

The college is still keen to speak to any other local business who may be interested in joining with us to support the Beacon Foundation Program at the school.  We are also looking for community members who would be willing to act as mentors at the following events:

  • Polish – 7th & 8th May
  • Lunch with the Girls – Thursday 22nd August.
  • BBQ with the boys – Thursday 22nd August.

Please feel free to contact our Beacon Coordinators, Russell Mitchell or Jo Darvill, on 51825522 if you have any questions or would like further information.
